Forsyth Farmers Market
What a dinner this was. All the ingredients were foraged and found at the Forsyth farmers market, and they were fresh and flavorful just how they should be. Hand-made pasta, bread, and red sauce from a little stand who you would think would be a little Italian lady, but she asks you “what you would like” and it turns out she’s actually French, making some of the best pasta I have ever tried. The other stand we get our produce from is across the way, where they sell the prettiest tiger lilies and sunflowers, as well as a good mix of fresh produce. We always get the fresh basil and heirloom tomatoes from this stand. Typically they have potatoes as well, which we pick up every now and then. When we went to the park this particular weekend, the “bread man”(what Sara and I call him), was not in attendance and this made us sad. Bread man sells the most amazing flavored loaves of bread, and even sells hot rolls filled with different fillings. We have so far tried the pesto and the asiago loaves. They are dense and make the best slices for breakfast toast, home-made croutons and even work well as smaller crostini’s. Back to this amazing dinner Sara and I spent our Saturday morning bobbing and weaving through dogs, the elderly, large families, and some of the slowest walkers you’ll ever see while in Savannah. We made a homemade red sauce with all the different tomatoes we collected, large chunks of garlic, cause that how we like it, and freshly grated parmesan. Of course we had to add some of that amazing basil, and the leftover basil from our plants inevitably go into the oven to dehydrate and to be added to my jar of random dried and crushed herbs. This gets rid of our waste and also creates a master seasoning batch with all sorts of dried herbs. You’ll always find dinner at the Forsyth farmers market.
